About

A Sydney company, built for Sydney streets

Sydney Robotaxis exists to bring autonomous ride-hailing to this city carefully, transparently and on terms the public can accept. We are pre-launch, and we would rather say what we are building than pretend it already exists.

The thesis

The technology will arrive. The operator decides how it lands.

Automated driving systems are being built by a handful of very large companies. What is not being built, at least not here, is the local operator that knows Sydney kerbs, Sydney regulators, Sydney depots and Sydney riders. That is the gap we are filling.

Our plan is to license proven automated driving technology and run it as a Sydney fleet, rather than spend a decade and a fortune rebuilding the driving stack from scratch. The hard local problems are operational: where vehicles charge, where they wait, where they stop, how quickly a human reaches a stranded car, and how a regulator can verify any of it.

How we work

Four principles we will be held to

Approval before ambition

No public rides until the safety case is complete and accepted. We will miss dates before we skip that gate.

Publish the numbers

Distance, incidents, assistance events and response times, released on a regular cycle whether or not they flatter us.

Narrow, then wide

A small mapped zone run well beats a large zone run thinly. Each expansion is earned with an operating record.

Share the road

Cyclists, pedestrians, buses and delivery drivers were here first. A fleet that clogs kerbs and bike lanes deserves to lose its licence.

The plan

Three phases, in order

1

Foundation

Company formation, vehicle and technology partner selection, depot and charging site assessment, and the regulatory pathway with Transport for NSW.

2

Supervised trials

Closed-course and then on-road testing within the mapped launch zone, under trial approval conditions, with safety operators present.

3

Public service

Staged opening to waitlist riders, corridor by corridor, with published performance data from the first day of service.

The team

Founding team, in formation

Sydney Robotaxis is at founding stage and is assembling a small senior team across four areas: fleet and depot operations, safety and regulatory affairs, software and remote support, and commercial partnerships. We are speaking with operators from the transport, aviation and energy sectors, where safety-critical operations are routine.

If you have run something that had to be safe every single day, we would like to hear from you.

Where we are today

Sydney Robotaxis is a pre-launch venture. It is not currently operating a passenger service, does not hold an operating approval for autonomous passenger transport, and makes no representation that any service will commence on any particular date. Statements about the proposed service, launch zone and fleet describe present intent, not a committed offering.
